“Hope” working in partnership with Tameside ISCAN Speech Therapist’s Helen Slater and Gemma Lester
We started the HOPE Communication Project by offering four informal training sessions for parents. Fuelled by biscuits, we presented sessions on What is Communication? Total Communication, Visual Support and Social Skills.
The sessions focused on developing parents’ understanding of how to support and develop their child’s communication throughout the day. We really enjoyed these sessions especially spending time with parents and learning about their children and the challenges they face on a daily basis. We felt that as we finished each session parents left planning enthusiastically how to use any new knowledge and strategies to support their children. The feedback from the sessions was great and we are really pleased everyone took so much from them. We look forward to moving forward with the project continuing to develop the strong links between the HOPE Support Group and ISCAN Speech & Language Therapy.
